This series
of Fairy-tale inspired photographs contains a cast of twentysix
characters from a variety of childhood fables each one illustrating a
different letter of the alphabet. Each portrait arbitrarily fuses disordered
cultural fragments of countless By randomly
mixing and matching different cultural myths, I construct an unfamiliar
and bizarre world from seemingly recognizable childhood icons and scenes
such as a frog, prince or glass slipper. Through this process of cross
cultural confusion I create my own fairy tale characters. Using these
newly developed hybrids and inbreds, I investigate social constructions
of age and gender and I allude to taboos of gender role play, adult and
childhood fantasies, and conventional ideas of beauty and the grotesque. I wish to continue exploring these themes and produce this book of photographs and their accompanying text as a limited edition artists book and create a world where fantasy and reality merge. |
